It’s been awhile

I am, so far, not the blogger I want to be. I truly intended to blog on a regular (weekly? semi-weekly?) basis, but other things are getting in the way.

And yes, Simran, I realize I am still using Blogger, with the WordPress folder full of goodies still sitting on the desktop of my Macintosh. I just haven’t had the guts/time/will to set up my GoDaddy server space with WordPress. I really, really want to. It will put me in better touch with my blog, and possibly induce me to change to a more interesting template. (At least the set of default templates in WordPress is a bit more interesting than the Blogger defaults.)

Well…soon. I did purchase a nice Moleskine reporter-style notebook (a very cool notebook, used by Moleskine nerds) last week at James Madison University, when we visited there with our daughter. And I have written in that thing.

In fact, I’m going to use notes from that notebook right now to write a blog entry on the changing media landscape. (No, not a rant against the RIAA this time.)

    Hey Dave,
It would be nice to see a post on the changing media landscape from someone actually involved in this revolution - you. The Word Nerds is really a podcast I immensely enjoy and will have more time for now that I’m done with my 6th German course. Btw, I got a Sehr Gut on my Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung! I’m certified by the German government now.

Ready to help whenever you want. Just remember 2 things, Blogger is also slowly expanding, because of its growth in popularity and Blogger is a lot easier to set up and maintain. Wordpress would involve wiping out your Wordpress files on your server clean everytime there’s an update and ftp-ing the new files. But I’m sure you would be a lot more satisfied with Wordpress. The possibilities are really unlimited when it comes to plugins and now widgets. Also, on Wordpress YOU have control and not Google. So, you’ll never get in trouble for removing a search bar or changing a CSS value.

    Take care,

    Simran

    Dave,

I have just started a blog about growing older, midlife and any other ideas I may have.

I am using Wordpress and I am in no way knowledgeable in terms of computers and Internet. I made it work and I am happy with it. I like being in control even if the learning curve is somewhat steep. Good luck with your switch.

    Cheers,

    Sir Fluffy

Okay, Sir Fluffy and Simran, you’ve convinced me.

I think Sunday is my WordPress conversion day. I’ll go onto my server and make a backup copy of everything there, then set up a directory for the Blogger blog to dump it all into the new directory, and then… (gulp) install WordPress. Then I’ll try to import from Blogger.

That’s the thing I’m most worried about. If I were starting WordPress from scratch it wouldn’t be so daunting. But I’ve already got, like, 33 posts in this blog on Blogger. And I don’t want to lose either the posts or the comments.
